HopkinsLocal Small Business Town Hall

The economic effects of the COVID-19 health crisis are widespread, bringing evolving challenges to almost every sector in the United States. Small businesses are being hit particularly hard during this pandemic; and many are learning how to access state and federal resources, it is also important to understand the new economic landscape, public health implications, and how you might pivot your business to thrive today and into the future.
In this town hall, we will assist small businesses by discussing:
- The global and regional economic outlook as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic
- The steps your business should take to support employee health and align with public health guidelines
- Best practice examples of how to adapt ways of thinking to adjust your business strategy, and
- Resources provided by Baltimore’s universities to assist businesses in short and longer-term engagements
About the Presenters:
Alicia Wilson is the Vice President for Economic Development at the Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Health System. She leads a core team driving Johns Hopkins’ strategy and initiatives as an anchor institution in and around Baltimore, and elevating and expanding the institutions commitment to the city through investments in economic and neighborhood development, health care, and education.
Mac McComas is the Senior Program Manager at Johns Hopkins 21st Century Cities Initiative where he oversees research projects related to urban economics. His research focuses on small business dynamism and access to capital in cities and urban neighborhoods.
Joshua Sharfstein, MD is the Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement, Professor of Practice at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Director of the Bloomberg American Health Initiative.
Rick Milter, PhD is Professor at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School where he teaches courses in strategy, leadership, effective teaming, and practicum courses via project-based applied consulting engagements. He also designs, builds, and facilitates leadership development programs for both government and corporate enterprises and serves as a coach to executives engaged in enhancing their leader capabilities.
